The Conference Board of Canada, hardly a bastion of far left thinking, just reminded Canadians about the growing income disparities in their society.

The richest group of Canadians, the highest quintile of earners saw their share of national income rise from 1993 to 2008. In this group the chance, the big winners were the super rich, the top 1 percent. And they got even richer is not as investments, but base salaries paid to the nature of bank presidents and CEOs of the company.

From 1980 to 2005, earnings for the top group rose 16.4 percent, while middle-income Canadians' incomes stagnated and earnings for those in the lower group slipped.

Mail Carrier Helps Lead to Arrest of Belmont Burglary Suspects ...

An alert mail carrier helped lead to the arrest of three young men suspected of burglarizing a home on Yorkshire Way in Belmont on Monday.

The mail carrier spotted the men shortly before 2 p.m. loitering near a home in the 400 block of Yorkshire Way, and saw the gate to the home's backyard was open, Belmont police Capt. Dan DeSmidt said.

The mail carrier, believing the men didn't look like residents of the home, called 911 and reported the incident to the police.

When Belmont officers responded, they discovered the home had indeed been burglarized, and were able to link the three men to the crime, DeSmidt said.
