The MC220L is a media converter designed to convert 1000BASE-SX/LX/LH fiber to 1000Base-T copper media or vice versa. Designed under IEEE802.3ab 1000Base-T and IEEE802.3z 1000Base-SX/LX/LH standards, the MC220L is designed for use with multi-mode/single-mode fiber cable utilizing the SC/LC-Type connector. It works at 850nm on both transmitting and receiving data when adopting multi-mode fiber and 1310nm on both transmitting and receiving data when adopting single-mode. The S-Series miConverter from Omnitron Systems weighs less than 2.5 ounces and is about the length of a standard house key. Series converters provide Fast Ethernet and Gigabit fiber-to-10/100/1000Base-T (fiber-to-copper wiring) media conversion. Omnitron says the device is designed for mobile applications where light weight, compact and low power are needed. The converters can be powered by USB, the company says, enabling fiber connectivity for locations where AC or DC is unavailable, including the field of applications deployed fiber-to-the-laptop and military.In such applications, fiber is run directly to the laptop, where it is converted to UTP copper port and connected to a laptop with an RJ45 Ethernet cable. Power is supplied to the converter media via the USB port of the laptop using a standard USB cable, eliminating the need for an electrical outlet.
