Dell 6224 Power Connect Switch

Dell 6224 Power Connect Switch by Dell Computers

          Features:
  • Support for 10GBase T and SFP+ 10GE Modules
  • advanced core switching capabilities for the small to medium
  • The PowerConnectTM 6224 is a high performance switch offering with
  • enterprise. It includes:

One of Dell's most advanced switch offerings
The PowerConnect 6224 is one of Dell's most advanced switch offerings with advanced core switching capabilities for the small to medium enterprise. This 24-port Gigabit Ethernet Layer 3 switch is stackable and offers optional 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks and supports the latest version of the Internet Protocol-IPv6-enabling broader worldwide scalability. High performance stacking is supported for up to twelve systems, and advanced security and Quality of Service (QoS) features make this switch ideal for applications such as Voice over IP, Layer 3 routing, High Performance Cluster Computing (HPPC), and iSCSI storage.

High Performance Stacking
The PowerConnect 6224 supports high performance stacking for up to twelve systems (each running at 48Gbps), which allows increased throughput to be added as needed without affecting network performance. With each switch supporting up to 136Gbps in switch capacity, the customer can have almost 3 Terabytes of capacity in a single stack of 12 switches.

Optional 10 Gigabit Ethernet
The PowerConnect 6224 switch supports up to four 10 Gigabit fiber & two 10GBase-T copper Ethernet uplinks for connectivity directly to 10GE servers routers, enterprise backbones and data centers.

Advanced Layer 3 Capabilities
The PowerConnect 6224 supports advanced Layer 3 routing and multicast protocols to help reduce congestion and manage traffic in the network.

Advanced Security
Access Control Lists (ACLs) can be supported on the switch, allowing the user to perform deep packet inspection. 802.1x port authentication offers both single and multiple host access. Further security is provided through Denial of Service (DoS) Attack Prevention, whereby the switch can help protect against common network attacks and CPU attacks.

Dell PowerConnect 62xx series stacking, 48G or 10G? | HostGator ...

by Traian

Inerail chris replied: The stacking cables are standard (latching) CX4. Each cable does 10Gbps. Under normal conditions your switches will be in a loop, meaning each switch has 2 stacking cables going to it.

Dell pushes the limit to 12Gbps per cable, so 24Gbps when in a loop.

(And they’re getting 48Gbps by saying 24Gbps in + 24Gbps out, instead of just saying 24Gbps full duplex)

On another note, you’ll need to be running the same revision of the firmware on all switches within a stack. If you’re going to be running 3.x, you can save yourself a few bucks by getting the CX4 copper ethernet module, instead of the stacking module. 3.x includes a command to convert CX4 ethernet ports to stacking ports.
